Walkersville Meeting on Budget and Taxes Includes Expanded Police Force Discussion
The Town of Walkersville will meet Wednesday, March 25, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. in Town Hall. The meeting agenda includes the adoption of a tax rate and budgets for the next fiscal year.
Following up on meetings in the fall of last year, Burgess Weddle’s proposed budget includes an expansion of the police force by $32,952. The Town of Walkersville contracts with the Maryland State Police to provide law enforcement in the town. A large portion of the $620,138 proposed for the police will come from sources other than the Walkersville tax cauffers, including money from Frederick County’s Tax Equity program as reimbursement for duplicate services.
The budget also includes a capital outlay of $70,000 for security cameras and a network to support those cameras on town properties and parks. These are not speed or red light cameras. They will record activity and be reviewed by Maryland State Police in the event of a reported crime.
There will also be an update on the driveway that was constructed illegally along Biggs Ford Road on a Kenneth Drive property. The property owner built a garage in his backyard, which was permitted by the town. A driveway cutting across his yard to Biggs Ford Road was not included in any of the reviewed and approved plans. The Town of Walkersville does not permit new driveways on Biggs Ford Road. A planned development behind the subject property was recently denied driveways from its proposed homes onto Biggs Ford Road.
